Overview of Newsbug

Newsbug is…
  • an all-hazard,
  • multi-channel
  • Public Emergency Warning System
  • based on international emergency alerting protocols.
The system automatically alerts members of the public in the event of fire, cyclone, flood, hail, tsunami, chemical spill… etc. the product of a research project sponsored by Emergency Management Australia (a division of the Australia Attorney General’s Department) the Western Australian Fire and Emergency Services Authority, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) and Murdoch University, Perth. Category award winner of the 2004 Australian Safer Communities Awards, sponsored by the Australian Attorney General’s Department. The project was funded under the 2003 Emergency Management Australia Projects grant scheme, and was carried out by Murdoch University, with the collaboration of The Australian Broadcasting Corporation and the Fire and Emergency Services Authority of Western Australia.
